1. Don’t think you have to decide the rest of your life today!
Take some pressure off of yourself and realize that you don’t have to make decisions for the rest of your life. Many people major in something and end up making a career out of something else. Life has a funny way of taking us on exciting adventures that will lead to many unexpected places.
2. What are you Interested in ?
Think about what you love. You are much more likely to succeed and enjoy the coursework in college if it is something that interest you and something that you are excited about learning.
Make a list of things you love and things that interest you. Is there a way to incorporate your favorite hobby into a career? Next to each of your hobbies and interest, write down a career that you could do and a supporting major.
3. Research career options for your Interest:
Do your research. Look at job opportunities, salary, and education requirements. I recommend making a spreadsheet with pros and cons of each.
4. Will this option allow you to live the lifestyle most important to you?
Decide what is most important to you. Is it important to you to have a career that allows you to also be involved with family? Is job satisfaction important to you? Is salary important to you? Do you want to work in a city ? Will this career require a bachelors degree ? Will this career require a Masters degree?
5. Do What you Love!
This is your life. Do what YOU LOVE! Never choose a career path based on the opinion of someone else.
IMAGINE COLLEGE COACHING would love to help you choose a major and find schools that will prepare you to do the job you love. Give us a call today!
